The Culture
The best thing about being on the Tufts Mountain Club Board is:
the community–from the endless adventure stories to being overly eager to go outside to sharing our love of the outdoors along with what resources we have with the rest of the Tufts community!
When we’re not working, we’re:
cooking, baking, running, hammocking, reading, jamming out to music, looking for more outdoor spaces
What we’re reading:
Earth in Human Hands, Between the World and Me
What we’re listening to:
NPR’s Codeswitch Podcast, James Taylor, Caamp, Yusuf/Cat Stevens
If they made a movie about our workplace, it would be called:
“Go Outside.” (As our motto has always motivated us to do.)
Inclusion in the outdoors matters because:
We often think of the outdoors as a place of discovering different forms of ableness, creating a unique set of memories and new shared interests in outdoor recreation, and becoming in touch with the planet that sustains our being and livelihood. We believe in actively breaking down barriers – whether racial, financial, or geographic – so that anyone can experience the joys that come with being included and welcome in outdoor spaces.
Five years down the line, it’s our hope that:
the club will be further transformed into an actively inclusive community of outdoor lovers. We hope the environment will be even more outwardly welcoming to people from all backgrounds and of all identities, without the intimidation of being a predominantly white space of only those well-acquainted with outdoor activity. We hope that the atmosphere and safe spaces we create for our affinity weekend events will pervade throughout events of the entire club year-round.
