The Culture
The best thing about working at outdoors at UVA is:
Getting to know other members of the UVA student body and Charlottesville community, as well as being able to learn from older and more experienced members of the club.
When we’re not working, we’re:
Kicking back in hammocks, sitting around a bonfire, or making instant oatmeal in the library.
What we’re reading:
The Fire Next Time by James Baldwin, The Toss of a Lemon by Padma Viswanathan, trail maps and climbing guides.
What we’re listening to/Watching on Netflix:
1619 Podcast by the New York Times, Mumford and Sons, and Planet Earth.
If they made a movie about our workplace, it would be called:
The crunch, the gnar, and the sendy.
Inclusion in the outdoors matters because:
There is no such thing as “outdoors for all” while BIPOC cannot occupy outdoor spaces without threat from racist attacks or microaggressions.
Five years down the line, it’s our hope that:
Our club will be a welcoming place for all UVA students and community members regardless of race, gender, sexuality, ability, or immigration status.
