The Culture
The best thing about working at madison Audubon is:
Our organization is like family, and each of the employees care about, support, encourage, and hold accountable the others as a family member would.
When we’re not working, we’re:
Outside - camping, birding, hiking, paddling, playing basketball, eating ice cream
What we’re reading:
The Home Place by J. Drew Lanham, Kingbird Highway by Kenn Kaufman, Farmer Boy by Laura Ingalls Wilder, Sand County Almanac by Aldo Leopold
What we’re listening to/Watching on Netflix:
The earthy melodies of acoustic folk, Pause on the Play podcast, and of course, all those lovely birds outside!
If they made a movie about our workplace, it would be called:
Flight Club. The first rule of Flight Club is that you DO talk about it.
Inclusion in the outdoors matters because:
Any effort to sustainably protect the environment is fundamentally flawed if individuals of all races and abilities are not invited, welcome, and included. We are all stewards of this planet by birthright, and the mental, emotional, social, and environmental benefits that come from people connecting with nature should be safely and openly afforded to everyone.
Five years down the line, it’s our hope that:
Our sanctuaries will see significantly more visitors of non-white ethnicities, our education programs will deepen relationship with community centers in high-diversity neighborhoods, and our membership, staff, and board will feature a much more racially, demographically, and economically diverse roster.
