Inclusion in the outdoors matters because:
Since our own immersion in van life many years ago, we have been deeply concerned by the low representation by people of color in the van life community, as well as the outdoor community as a whole. Van life has always represented freedom, but we realize this freedom not only stems from the vehicle we drive, but the color of our skin. We recognize that white people who live out of a vehicle are viewed differently than Black people. We’ve always been taught that this is a ‘Black problem,’ but we now see it as what it actually is: a ‘white problem.’ And we must do more to fix it.
Five years down the line, it’s our hope that:
