The Culture

Demographics (Optional):

The best thing about working at SIMMS is:

Our Team. Over the last 40 years, more importantly the last two decades, we have attracted and engaged a passionate, intelligent, committed group of folks. Many of the executive team come with incredible experience and expertise and a desire to mentor and grow less experienced folks within the organization. Going through the pandemic, it’s been uplifting to see our team committed to the health, safety, and mental wellness of each other.

When we’re not working, we’re:

Fishing, sharing fishing stories, and generally enjoying all that Big Sky Country has to offer – Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter – with our families. And running the dogs. Before CV-19, we were enjoying company events like rowing & casting clinics, cookouts, and fishing Olympics.

What we’re reading:

That’s a great question. Many team members have shared books that are about social injustice, anti-racism, and similar topics. Many of our Wader Makers are listening to podcasts during their workday of the same topic, and others. I recently heard that one of our team members is coordinating a book club for her daughter to read Charlotte’s Web.

What we’re listening to:

This was actually a popular topic of one of our recent company-wide communications. John Coltrane, Talking Heads, Grateful Dead, Sly and the Family Stone, Westerman, and Chris Stapleton.

If they made a movie about our workplace, it would be called:

Fish It Well.

Inclusion in the outdoors matters because:

Fishing is for everyone. Being intentional about inclusion inspires more people to engage in protecting natural resources and public access that are critical to our sport.

Five years down the line, it’s our hope that:

SIMMS has had a marked impact in creating a more inclusive space that has led to more people speaking out, showing up and voting for conservation initiatives to protect and maintain healthy fisheries.
